Graffiti Removal and Wood Dust Booklets

Click below to see two booklets on the hazards of graffiti removal and on respiratory problems from working around wood dust. The booklets, published in 2004, were developed jointly by LOHP and the California Department of Health Services, Occupational Health Branch.

Removing Graffiti Safely

This is a 12-page booklet for workers who use chemicals to remove graffiti— painters, laborers, custodians, bus cleaners, phone booth cleaners, and others. The products used to remove graffiti, and the job conditions, can be hazardous.

- English only (PDF) (2004)

Wood Dust and Occupational Asthma

This is an 8-page booklet for workers who may be exposed to wood dust on the job. Thousands of Californians work with wood every day in furniture or cabinet-making shops, construction, logging, sawmills, paper mills, or plants that make plywood, particle board, or fiberboard. Breathing wood dust can cause a variety of health problems, especially asthma.

It explains state regulations that apply when planning and implementing any major project that may create potential exposure to lead.

Working in a Lead-Safe School

This is a 28-page booklet used in our training program for California elementary school maintenance workers. It describes the hazards that lead presents for both workers and school children, and explains safe work practices. Both English and Spanish versions of the booklet are available in print and online.

HIV/AIDS and Bloodborne Pathogens Booklet

Click below to see LOHP's booklet on workplace exposure to HIV/AIDS and bloodborne pathogens. The booklet, Do You Work Around Blood or Body Fluids? Cal/OSHA's New Rules, was specifically written for nursing home and home healthcare workers but could be useful for other occupations as well.

The booklet was originally issued in four languages, but printed copies are no longer available for sale. However, the English-language version of the booklet is online.

LOHP Multilingual Resource Guide

This is an extensive collection of links to worker health and safety training materials (such as factsheets, curricula, and checklists) that are available from many sources online in languages other than English. It was prepared by LOHP and the California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation.

The Guide was updated in late 2005. It is available here in HTML, PDF, and Microsoft Word versions. You may view the HTML version to start your search or to print specific sections of the Guide. You may also print or view the full text of the Guide in PDF or Microsoft Word. Please note that the HTML version is easier to navigate.

These materials are arranged in two ways to assist you in quickly finding appropriate training aids: by topic and by language.

At the end of the Guide, you'll find a listing of web sites with additional links to health and safety information and resources in other languages.

The Guide is designed to complement the statewide Worker Occupational Health and Safety Training and Education Program (WOSHTEP).
