Ergonomics
studies how job processes, tools, and equipment can be made
to fit the needs of the human body. Poor ergonomic design in
offices, factories, and other workplaces can cause serious health
problems, ranging from strained backs to repetitive stress injuries
(RSIs).
According
to OSHA, RSIs and similar work-related musculoskeletal disorders
are growing faster than any other type of job injury in the U.S.
LOHP
provides training and technical assistance on ergonomics to unions,
employers, and others. Current projects include joint work with
the State Building and Construction Trades Council of California,
AFL-CIO, to present "training of trainer" ergonomics classes
for union members. We have also conducted ergonomics workshops for
home care workers in Alameda County (members of Service Employees
International Union Local 616) and for office workers at the University
of California, Berkeley.

more information or to discuss ergonomics training for your
organization, contact Laura Stock: lstock@berkeley.edu.
